About the Item

Asma Ol-Hosna Religious Arabic Calligraphy is a precious original manuscript. One page, one-sided, in Arabic, the original sheet (cm 17x 11) is in excellent condition and under plexiglass and framed in an ebony wooden frame (cm 34.5 x 2.3 x 28.5). This manuscript topic reports Islamic sacred verses in an ancient calligraphy style. The script is in black ink with some words and decorative shapes in red ink. There are also point (red circle) between the sacred names of God in red ink. These points help calligrapher to separate different names of God and emphasis on holy names of Him between these red circles. The script is divided into two parts in its composition: the left side with bigger words belongs to the description of sacred and finest names of God “Asma Ol-Hosna”. The smaller script of the sheet is often hard to read but surmise they are praying and holy script. In the center of main – the bigger- part of the script, there is a phrase, “Besmelah Rahman Rahim”, which means “In the name of God”, the second phrase is: “the God is only and there is no God and just Him”. Afterward the beautiful names of God are written down between red circles, “ Asma Hosna” , which has strong root in Islamic culture and are important for Muslims, the names are: The Beneficent, The most merciful, the king, All pure, the giver of peace, The granter of security, The controller, The guardian, The exalted in might and power, The omnipotent and supreme, The possessor of greatness, The initiator, designer, The repeatedly forgiving, the conqueror, The great donor. According to a Hadith: There are at least 99 names of Allah, the names are also called 99 Attributes of “Allah”, Abu Hurairah reported that “Allah” has ninety-nine Names, one hundred minus one, and whoever believes in their meanings and acts accordingly, will enter to Paradise. There is another Sahih Muslim Hadith: “Allah” has ninety-nine Names, one-hundred less one; and he who memorized them all by heart will enter to Paradise. To count something means to know it by heart. The first sentence of big script is about the city of Ramadan, and the first red ink phrase is “Allah Taali ol-Alam” which means“Allah is God almighty”. Below the big script in the smaller words in left part of the manuscript, there is a circled word, “Alrazagh”, which is one of famous name of God in Islamic culture, “Alrazagh”, means the “provider, sustainer, bestower of sustenance, all provider”, the word indicates to God, who gives His nation bread and income and Makes the day of everyone. Here the calligrapher beautifully shows he is a faithful believer of Islamic world and emphasis on this word, but this time just with a subtle and delicate circle, not exaggerating but carefully interlaced into the script, to demonstrate his true emotion, as he knows “Alrazagh” also is one of God’s name. The Quran refers to God's Most Beautiful Names “Asma Ol- Hosna” in several “Surahs”, A cluster of more than a dozen Divine epithets which are included in such lists is found in “Surah 59”. Mystic philosopher Ibn Arabi surmised that the 99 names are "outward signs of the universe's inner mysteries”. There is no universal agreement among Muslims as to what exactly counts as a name of God and what does not. Additionally, while some names are only in the Quran and others are only in the Hadith, there are some names that appear in both. Different sources give different lists of the 99 names. In this sheet sheen, magnificent names of God among the red circle, make this calligraphy script, unique and worthy, furthermore shows faith and emotion of calligrapher through simple shapes, lines and words which with modesty are made. In this precious manuscript, the beauty belongs to attributes and holy adjectives of God, with elegance red circle between them, that here also is a symbol of unity. Subtle circled word of “Alrazagh” gives to Muslim believer peace of the day, while he knows giver and bringer of earnings ad income is by intention and will of Almighty God.
