Chinese Forbidden Stitch Embroidery of a Famille Rose Vase

Contemporary

About the Item

A wonderful example of Chinese embroidery, this framed silk textile uses the infamous forbidden stitch to depict a fine blue-and-white porcelain vase. Also known as the "Peking knot" or "seed stitch," the forbidden knot is a silk embroidery method that results in minuscule, pearl-like knots, usually densely clustered to cover a fabric with color. This intricately stitched vase is depicted with painted decoration of a scenic mountain landscape on its rounded body, a classic painting form known as "shan shui." An all-over pattern of florals and trailing vines decorates the narrow neck in the blue-and-white style.

Tree of Life One ancient mythical symbol appears across various cultures as the esoteric Tree of Life. The Tree represents life's abundance and immortality. The cosmic mountain is often depicted as the highest point on earth where heaven and earth meet, where Gods dwell; the Tree stands atop it. Specific trees are held sacred and worshipped as the Tree of Life by the different cultures, and it does not bode well to cut the Peepal in India, Bodhi (Peepal) in Buddhist countries, Cyprus in Iran etc. About: "Art is just perception.
