About the Item
Large abstract acrylic painting on canvas by Amanda Andersen; one in a series of four created in 2020 during anxiety filled times due mostly to Covid. The shapes in these works represented a balloon at first–a common subject in the artist's earlier work, which honored the beauty and elegance of hot air balloons and also celebrated their invitation for a romantic escape. We all wanted an escape in 2020. The large shape can also be seen as a window; the static hole we all peered out from to check if the world was still out there. With stripes–also a common visual element in the artist's work, it may even suggest prison bars. Beaming bright eyes; balloons drifting silently, screaming exclamation points or tiny prisons–you decide.
Acrylic paint on canvas; on heavy duty stretcher bars including hardware; ready to hang.
Original ships in a box from Hamburg.

Amanda Andersen
Based out of a poorly heated–yet cozy attic studio bordering the icy waters of Northern Europe, Amanda has been working for over 10 years as a professional artist; creating paintings as well as artist books and digital artworks. Working mostly in acrylic paint on canvas, she makes minimal compositions with sprinklings of high contrast patterns and color. Using minimalist strategies, she pedals between the abstract and figurative. Inspired by the rigid lines of Agnes Martin and organic forms of Eva Hesse, she also adores fantasy films, surrealism, brutalist architecture and a really smooth gradient. Amanda is also an illustrator and animator creating works under digital pseudonym We Throw Rocks, setting paintings in motion. Her work has shown internationally, including: the Kunstraum Kreuzberg in Berlin, Tiny Creatures in Los Angeles, the National Centre for Contemporary Arts State Museum in St Petersburg. Her most recent exhibition was completely virtual; Flora | Fauna hosted by Tez1and, presented by CleanNFTs and Teia.
Amanda received a BFA in Illustration from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, and completed a MA at the Universität der Künste Berlin, Germany. Her work has been featured in Art Review, Art Kunstmagazin and is held in many private collections as well as the MOMA Art Library and MACBA Barcelona.

- "Following II" abstract acrylic paint on canvas, black lines draped still lifeBy Amanda AndersenLocated in Hamburg, HHA large abstract painting on canvas by Amanda Andersen; one in a series of five in the "Following" series created in 2013. (Three of them are available for sale, two sold.) This series was made with a linseed oil medium on the geometric parts of the canvas to create areas of semi-gloss transparency to contrast the larger matte surfaces. Black tape from a VHS cassette was draped in the studio and used as reference to create the abstracted black forms in the piece which elegantly stretch out and pile together in the middle. Background areas of pale pink, tan and beige let the black tape stand out, layered with pale yellow and yellow green rectangles. This series belongs to a larger body of work created in the early 2010s which explored vintage technologies and materials. Including still life paintings of VHS cassette tape–like this one–as well as reel-to-reel tape machines...Category

(framed) Please note: Our framing studio could not accommodate the scale of this work, so it is being sold as-acquired. Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York. Landfield joined the David Whitney...Category
