Fleeting Moments III was developed for a three person exhibition – ‘[un] seen’- at Arthouse 1 Gallery in London 2019 with Hanna ten Doornkaat, Sinta Werner and myself as the participating artists. “[un]seen gives us access to the fundamentals of perception and amplifies the power of our ability to not only make connections between ourselves, the artworks and the space in which they reside, but also to extrapolate connectivity to the world outside the gallery.” Jillian Knipe – Catalogue Essay [un]seen , Arthouse 1 Gallery, London 2019 Annamarie Dzendrowskyj seeks to examine the indeterminate nature of ‘ways of seeing’ and ‘ ways of being’, that ambiguous ‘grey area’ between presence and absence by exploring fleeting moments of a world in constant flux. Moments in time that suggest a space, rather than define a space, one that exists between what is seen &unseen, a zone of indiscernablity. Indiscernable zones and spaces have been at the heart of her life experiences which act as a catalyst for my work, following 12 years as a scuba diving instructor, bringing my empirical experience of life underwater to the surface. What is seen underwater is affected by interference – by water movement, light and weather conditions and in this sense, nothing appears clearly defined. This is reflected in paintings and photographs which present the emergence and dissolution of forms and settings in ethereal landscapes. Employing a process of creation and erasure, concealing and revealing, evoking the sense of a netherworld conflating time, place, vision and memory. Exploring the tension between figuration & abstraction, inviting the viewer to question their perception of time, place & space. Annamarie was born in London and originally trained as a classical ballet dancer followed by a career as a PADI Scuba Diving Instructor/Examiner. She holds a BA Hons Degree in Philosophy specialising in existentialism & aesthetics (Lancaster University, UK), BA in Fine Art and BA Honours Degree in Painting (National Art School, Sydney, Australia). Selected Distinctions: Finalist for the Arte Laguna Prize both in 2019 – recipient of a Biafarin Honours Award & in 2016 – recipient of the Fallani Serigraphy Residency Award. In 2020 & 2019, selected for a Finalist Award in the Circle Arts Foundation Artist of the Year. Shortlisted for the Lynn Painter Stainers Prize in 2016, 2013 & Art Gemini Prize 2014, 2015, 2016, awarded 2nd Place in 2015. Annamarie’s work has been exhibited internationally including UK, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Austria, Egypt & Australia & her work is held in both public & private collections.

  • Cornwall - Textural Abstract Boho Original Oil Painting
    By Susan Washington
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Susan Washington seamlessly blends modern textiles, delicate threads, and captivating vintage pattern paper to create her mesmerizing mixed-media, abstract collage works. Through her masterful technique, she produces surfaces that are richly layered with textures and adorned with expressive line work, resulting in artworks that are both visually stimulating and aesthetically satisfying. Drawing inspiration from the early Synthetic Cubists, Abstract Expressionists, and the esteemed St. Ives School of Painters, she pushes the boundaries of her craft, forging a distinct artistic path that is both innovative and thought-provoking. This one-of-a-kind 48-inch tall by 36-inch wide oil artwork on canvas is wired and ready to hang. It bears the artist's signature on the front and back and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the art gallery. Free delivery is available for those in the local Los Angeles area, and affordable worldwide shipping is available for US and international art collectors. Hailing from the vibrant artistic hub of Brooklyn, Susan Washington was raised in a creative family that fostered her innate talent from a young age. At the tender age of seven, her Japanese godmother imparted to her the ancient art of sumi ink painting, igniting a lifelong passion for art and fashion. With a solid foundation rooted in both disciplines, Washington honed her skills within the bustling fashion industry of New York City for over 15 years before finding her home in the serene Pocono Mountains. “My recent work continues the exploration of shapes that originate in tailoring pattern pieces,” says Washington. “My works over time have become more structural in their compositions. I utilize textile cutouts that have been previously sewn and/or painted. I allow threads and frayed edges to act as ‘painterly’ gestures within a loose grid of contrasting shapes that jostle for position across the canvas. I enjoy the tensions where shapes meet and create negative space or where color overlaps and interacts.” Washington's modernist approach to Cubist-inspired artworks has gained international recognition for asymmetrical geometric elements that combine to form a complex, layered composition. Her artworks have been exhibited and collected internationally, including in New York, Los Angeles, and Shanghai.
