Anthony Frost
Anthony Frost’s art is bright, expressive and saturated with color. The British artist’s complex abstract paintings make use of repeated patterns and see an integration of a mix of provocative materials — everything from burlap, pumice and rubber to pieces of paper shopping bags and string figures into his pieces. Each image is transformed by his use of mixed media, which lends a collagist feel to the work.
Frost was raised in St. Ives, England — one of five sons born to the famous English abstract artist Sir Terry Frost. In 1970, he entered the Cardiff College of Art in Wales to study fine arts, graduating with honors in 1973. From 1982-90 he was a visiting Lecturer at the Canterbury School of Art in England.
Music is an essential part of Frost's creativity — he’s always listening to bands such as the English post-punk group The Fall while in his studio — and he was commissioned in 1990 to create the cover for the act’s Extricate LP as well as its tour backdrop. Also during the decade, Frost undertook residencies at the Cyprus College of Art in Cyprus and the Montmiral School of Painting in France. In 2005, he was commissioned to design a stained glass window for the Marazion Primary School in England. His work was featured in the "Art Now Cornwall'' exhibition at the Tate St Ives in 2007. In 2008, while he was their artist-in-residence, he was again asked by The Fall to create the Imperial Wax Solvent album cover and tour merchandise art.
In 2009, Frost received an “Honorary Degree of Master of the University in Recognition of Services to the Arts” by the Open University via the Plymouth University College of Art & Design, England. The Fall once again commissioned him to create artwork for their 2012 tour, which consisted of their backdrop and tour merchandise.

(framed) Please note: Our framing studio could not accommodate the scale of this work, so it is being sold as-acquired. Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York. Landfield joined the David Whitney...Category
