About the Item
ANTON 3000
(Havana, 1991) Lives and works in Paris
Anton Morales, aka Anton 3000, is a young artist currently working on his MFA at the Sorbonne in Paris, where he also completed his undergraduate education. He continued his studies at the École Supérieure of Art and Design in Marseille, as well as in the École Supérieure of Architecture in Paris – Val de Seine. He has participated in two group shows at the Atelier Fond du Cour in Paris.
“Fruit 7” is part of his Fruits & Vegetable series, characterized by Anton’s use of finger painting and through contrasting bright colors, and glitter paint. The works’ abstract backgrounds allude to invisible organic scents through abstraction.
He found inspiration giving equal importance to the paint’s thickness and thus creating sharp edges and raised textures. The final result approaches a kitsch aesthetic. The use of fluorescent paint on each canvas reinforces the toxicity of the fruits as they glow in the dark. Finally, this work evokes the myth of the Bible’s forbidden fruit, producing “temptations-in-paint.”
