Gerard Sala i Rosselló was born in Tona (Osona) on March 9, 1942. He spent his childhood in Palma de Mallorca. He currently lives in Badalona and Sant Joan de les Abadesses, where he has his studio.
He studied painting at the Massana School, at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts and at the Mural Painting School in Sant Cugat del Vallès. Since 1979 he has been a professor in the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona, where he is currently professor emeritus. In 1985 he completed the Doctoral Thesis "Environment" based on his own work. He has held nearly fifty individual exhibitions and participated in more than a hundred group exhibitions, most of them in Catalonia, although, on some occasions, his works have been exhibited in Spain ( Madrid, Seville, Bilbao, Ibiza, Zaragoza, Palma de Mallorca...) and abroad (Germany, Sweden, USA, Israel, Uruguay, Chile, Italy...).
Gerard Sala is essentially dedicated to painting, although he has also cultivated some other fields of art such as engraving, lithography, sculpture (La porta del Mar in Badalona), the mural (200 m2 in the stucco at Honda Greens, La Garriga), the poster (Festes de la Mercè. Barcelona 1995), the scenography (Nascita e Apoteosi di Horo, chamber opera by Miquel Roger), stamps (3 for the Pre-Olympic Series) and poetry (With the voice in the eyes, Viena Edicions; Germinal, Edicions Pont del Petroli).
He has works in: Badalona Museum, Ibiza Contemporary Art Museum, Seville Contemporary Art Museum, MACBA, Zabaleta Museum, Fundacion Juan March, Fundació Lluís Companys, Fundació EINA, Fundació Vilacasas, Collection Testimino de La Caixa , Collection University of Barcelona, Collection Diari Avui, Collection Banca Catalana, Collection Banc de Sabadell, Collection F.C.Barcelona, Collection Caixa de Girona.
Gerard Sala, as a receiver/spectator, is very interested in music, poetry and Taoism, from which he possibly learned as much or more about the essence of art than painting
