Hsin-Lin Chiao
'Children of Light' original abstract acrylic painting signed by Hsin-Lin Chiao

2020

About the Item

'Children of Light' is an original acrylic painting by the Chinese-American artist Hsin-Lin Chiao. As in her other canvases, Hsin-Lin here uses abstraction to represent abstract concepts around spirituality and faith. The composition presents a field of tumultuous red constructed of small circles and polka dots. Above a rhapsodic sea of undulating lines, a series of white dots sweep upward between two circles and into a sphere of deep blues and greens. Read literally, perhaps these dots could be interpreted as the souls of the saved being harrowed from hell or being swept away from the earthly plane. Such a literal interpretation, however, is probably a misguided attempt by the viewer to grant narrative structure to an otherwise abstract image. It is nonetheless clear that Hsin-Lin adores the use of pattern, repetition, and the form of the circle. Her impulse to use the circle as a symbol of spiritual ideas not only ties into the rich history of Chinese art, but also reflects the impulses of modern masters like Kazimir Malevich. Malevich, known for his Suprematist compositions that pushed the limitations of painting, often used pure forms like squares and crosses to reference the perfect and unknowable form of God. Hsin-Lin does much the same. Acrylic on canvas 30 x 15 inches, canvas 32.13 x 17.13 inches, frame Signed and dated "Hsin-Lin 12-2020" center right. Signature stamp on reverse. Excellent condition – new with no damage or imperfections. Presented in a gold and matte black finish modern profile wood moulding. Hsin-Lin Chiao’s paintings form an intimate expression of life, revealing its beauty, complexities, and contradictions. Her objective is to articulate the intricacies of everyday life, looking beneath the surface of norms and beliefs, while always remaining connected to nature. She works with a combination of acrylic, colored pencils, and molding paste on canvas to realize this objective. Hsin-Lin's approach to art is organic and intimate, as it arises out of her interactions with books, music, and people. But most titles such as "Faith," "Prayer," "Draw Me Closer to You," "Love That Lasts," and "Passion of the Christ" are inspired by God through events in her life, events that brought her closer to her Heavenly Father. God was faithful over the years, and Hsin-Lin's relationship with Him helped her to start a new life and to reap the very best of it. Her art has been the core of this new beginning, and all of her feelings and emotions of her past experiences are deeply exposed through her work. Hsin-Lin says, "I feel as if God sends designs right through my mind and into my fingertips." Besides painting, Hsin-Lin enjoys interior design, fashion, ballet, and playing the violin. She is a woman of great strength, integrity, courage, and talent. Her life and character expressed through her art is an enormous blessing to the world.

In a captivating new collection, Alex Guofeng Cao dazzles audiences with his unique twist on instantly recognizable images. Inspired by history and pop culture, Cao manipulates one iconic image to create another in his extraordinary large-scale works. From a distance, the pieces appear to be a singular image but as the viewer approaches closer, you find each work is a masterfully crafted compilation of minute detailed images layered next to one another, creating a mesmerizing and hypnotic optical illusion. Cao meticulously places each smaller image to form a dynamic gradient from dark to light which tricks the eye into seeing one image. This expertise in contrast is exemplified in all of his works, from striking black and white pieces to stunning explorations in high-definition color. He cleverly mirrors this visual contrast in his subject matter by subverting the main image and creating a dialogue between the macrocosm and microcosm. Take the piece, Ali vs Armstrong; here we see the iconic image of Muhammed Ali’s victory composed of thousands of tiny portraits...
