Spring Riot is an expressive, gestural painting evoking the bright colours and vitality of Spring time - birdsong, blossom bursting open and being blown around in brisk breezes, sunny spells, unexpected frosts and an atmosphere of renewal and optimism. The painting is built up of veils of colour, scribbles and scratches.There is a variety of mark making and contrasting areas of transparent and opaque paint all of which enliven the surface of the painting and convey an atmosphere of speed and energy. Spring Riot and its sister painting Spring would make a great pair as they are painted from the same palette and with the same energy.
