CASTILLO, Jorge (Pontevedra, 1933).
Since childhood, Jorge Castillo is passionate about drawing, and takes only ten years, with crayons, your first copy of Rubens. According to Castillo, the painting by Rubens taught him to understand the Cubism of Braque and Picasso. His family emigrated to Buenos Aires a year born painter, but he will return to Europe. Try to go to Paris, but due to lack of economic resources is established in Spain. After passing through Vigo installed in Madrid in 1957, where he soon comes into contact with the art critic José María Moreno Galván, who admires his work and introduced into the Madrid artistic circles. In 1958 he starts selling his drawings in the gallery Biosca, and the painter Antonio Saura buy several of them. The following year he exhibited his works on paper and watercolors at the Altamira Gallery in Madrid. Gradually it will plumping for printmaking, which will ultimately be their main means of expression, but it will alternate with paint. In 1960 he is selected for the Biennial of São Paulo in Brazil. Thereafter he exhibits his work internationally in galleries and museums in New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Paris, Lisbon, Turin, Hanover, Dusseldorf and Geneva. Participates in the Venice Biennale in 1964 and 1976, and in 1970 performed a solo exhibition at the Nationalgalerie in Berlin, the first major exhibition in a museum, to a particular period of his career. He won awards such as the International Drawing (1964) and Painting (1975) of Darmstadt, the City of Pontevedra (1994), and the Cultura Viva of Fine Arts (2006). Ibiza currently lives and works. You can contemplate the work of Jorge Castillo at the Museum of Fine Arts in Lausanne, the Juan March Foundation, the National Galleries in Edinburgh and Berlin, the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco and Vitoria, the Kunsthalle Bremen, the Albertina in Vienna, the National Library of Spain and the Guggenheim in New York, among others..
