About the Item
Large burgundy toned gallery space of a selection of the artist's own work in the style of Mark Rothko's color field paintings. This piece is part of a series that the artist did exploring her own paintings in relation the galleries they were shown in. The rich toned colors pop against the red background of the gallery walls. The title "Portait of an Exhibition III- For Tomaso (at the Ridotto)," references a wing of Venice's Palazzo Dandolo near the church of San Moisè. Signed, titled, and dated on back. Currently unframed, but options are available.
Artist Biography:
Karen Lastre was born in St. Paul, MN in 1940. She moved to Texas in 1965 where she began to work as a painter in 1969. She has been influenced by the color field abstract expressionist works like Mark Rothko. Her work has been purchased by private collectors throughout the United States and Europe. In 1994 she was a Merit Award at the Cheekwood Museum of Art in Nashville. She worked in a studio in Mid-Town at Art Square Studios. She showed her work in Dallas at the Mary Tomas Gallery where she had an individual show in 2011. She has recently passed in 2018.

Karen Lastre
Karen Lastre was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1940. She moved to Texas in 1965, where she began to work as a painter in 1969. She had been influenced by the Color-Field Abstract Expressionist works of artists such as Mark Rothko. Her work has been purchased by private collectors throughout the United States and Europe. In 1994, she received a Merit Award at the Cheekwood Museum of Art in Nashville. She worked in a studio in Midtown at Art Square Studios. She showed her work in Dallas at the Mary Tomás Gallery, where she had an individual show in 2011. She passed in 2018.
