Perfect Coincidence 19 (Abstract painting)
Acrylic on canvas — Unframed.
The Perfect Coincidence series by the artist emerges as a contemporary homage to the whims of chance reminiscent of Jean Arp's technique, where he crafted new sensual forms by tearing coloured paper and letting it fall freely, guided by randomness.
The artist chooses a canvas cloth laid upon the workbench as the recipient of her creative experiment.
In this series, the compositions come alive through an unplanned dance of colours. Each piece records a unique incident, an unpredictable interplay of the artist's intuitive movements, the vibrant spectrum of her palette, and the ever-present element of chance. It is in these moments, amidst the accidental drips and splashes, that the artist finds a perfect coincidence, where sensation, hue, and happenstance are intricately intertwined.
Kyong Lee
Kyong Lee is a Korean abstract artist whose work reconciles physical and emotional realities through a multi-disciplined exploration of color, material, process, and form. Lee received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hongik University in Seoul, Korea, in 1991. She earned her Masters Degree from the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig, Germany, in 2000. From 2001-2002, Lee was the Artist in Residence at the internationally well known SSamzie Space Studio Residence Program, Seoul, Korea.Work by Lee is in multiple public and institutional collections, including that of the Seoul Museum of Art, the Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art, and the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Bank, Seoul, Korea.
Work by Lee Kyong has been exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions in Korea and Germany. Recent solo exhibitions include Color as Adjective II in Chonan, South Korea, and Feeling, Language and Color in Seoul. Lee is dedicated to precision in her processes. She meticulously plans her color choices and dedicates a fixed amount of time to the mixing of each color. To create her gradated color paintings, she first layers tape in strips across the surfaces. Each layer of paint is applied over a fixed time span and allowed to rest for another fixed amount of time. This is a process of building up, layering, accumulating. The gradations express relationships between colors and moments. Some of her paintings feature text. For these works, Lee embosses the word she has selected for the piece into the surface first then applies a monochromatic hue that correlates to, and collaborates with, the chosen word. The color occupies the word and fills all of the space around it. For Lee, the process is poetic, and essential to the meaning of the work.

(framed) Please note: Our framing studio could not accommodate the scale of this work, so it is being sold as-acquired. Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York. Landfield joined the David Whitney...Category
