'Flight', by Larry Hefner, Abstract Mixed Media on Canvas Painting, 2023

2023

About the Item

This 46.625 x 46.625 inch square acrylic mixed media painting by Larry Hefner depicts an abstract arrangement of lines and patterns. Hefner utilizes a wide range of colors in this work including various shades of purple, blue, yellow, red, orange, pink, white and grey. From the top of the composition, taking up about 1/4th of the work, is a solid strip of thick, yellow paint. About 30 thin horizontal lines run across the yellow plane, all different colors, specifically orange, yellow, white, black, blue, and pink. Hefner creates vertical ridges within the thick paint, making the horizontal colored lines look spotted in certain areas, as the light bounces off of it. Below this section of yellow, taking up the remaining 3/4ths of the composition, is an area of splotchy purple and blue canvas. Horizontal grey and white strips of paint of various widths overlay the areas of splotchy blue and purple paint. Layered yet again over the bottom 3/4th of the canvas are multiple thin, curved lines of varying colors, patterns, and sizes. The curve of the lines almost resemble the work of a protractor, as they are all similarly curved radians. The lines are mainly blue, black, orange, red, with a few bright pink lines. Some of the lines are dotted with white dots, some with black dots, and some marked with short black repeating lines. There are five different triangular, curved black shapes that connect from the crossing of these lines. Larry Hefner received his Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees from the University of Oklahoma. He has taught both art and deign at various universities across the United States for over 30 years. He is Professor Emeritus of Design in the School of Design at the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, Oklahoma where he was chair of the department. Larry is currently a professional fine artist working from his studio in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is a multi-disciplined artist working in a variety of media and techniques primarily working in the area of painting with acrylic as his primary medium. His work has been exhibited in many local and regional museums and galleries winning numerous awards. For the past 40+ years, Larry has worked as a graphic designer/photographer, owning his own studio, The Hefner Group in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma specializing in advertising and graphic design.

  • Landscapes I - Oversized Large, Vivid Pastel Abstract Original Painting
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Khoury's art is characterized by her masterful use of vivid fluorescent colors, dark tones, and high-contrast compositions that are both striking and visually compelling. She employs a variety of techniques, including thick and thin brushstrokes, to create a sense of depth and texture in her work. To balance the roughness of the canvas, which is treated with sand prior to starting each piece, Sally incorporates pastels, which add a softness to the overall texture of the painting. The sand is evenly sprinkled across the surface, giving each piece a unique and distinct texture. This large, fluorescent, colorful 59-inch high by 108-inch wide triptych painting is an acrylic paint composition on canvas with pastels, spray paint, and sand. Each segment measures 59 inches high by 36 inches wide. This abstract artwork is signed by the artist on the front of the artwork. The sides are a continuation of the painting and it does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Convenient U.S. and global shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Khoury's series of abstract paintings is a celebration of her connection to her parent's native language and the Arab world she grew up in. Through the incorporation of elements of Arabic writing, Khoury infuses her work with a unique charm and energy that captivates the viewer. The curves and lines that make up the language are emphasized and transformed into vibrant, colorful patterns that represent a mix of emotions and memories. Each painting is a visual representation of the sense of belonging that Khoury feels through the language and culture of her upbringing. Khoury begins her creative process by using pastels, spray paint, and acrylics to create scratches and marks on the canvas. As she works, she draws inspiration from Arabic words and phrases, using them to guide the direction of her strokes. Before the paint dries, Khoury scrapes it off, pulling it downwards towards the end of the canvas. To complete the composition, Khoury adds solid colors and meticulously placed drips of paint, which give the painting a sense of movement and depth. The result is a series of captivating abstract paintings that showcase Khoury's talent as an artist and her unique artistic vision. Khoury was born in Ohio following her family’s emigration from Lebanon. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Saudi Arabia, where she stayed until she was 14. Sally then attended high school and college in Beirut, where she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts with distinction from the Lebanese American University of Beirut. In 2013, she moved back to the United States and settled in California. She recently relocated to Qatar. Her paintings have been featured in group and solo shows in Beirut, Dubai, Italy, and the USA.
