Leslie Allen is a painter’s painter. She approaches the canvas without preconceived notions and allows the process to guide her through the painting. She immerses herself in the development of the painting as it occurs, responding to every mark with a keenly developed improvisational style. Allen relishes the pure color and movement of oil paint on the surface. She “listens” to the paint. She has worked out her own visual language through years of experimentation and exploration. Growing up in Yosemite Valley in the 50s, Charles Eckart was surrounded by majestic beauty in a place where long hikes and the change of seasons might well turn the creative mind inward. Eckart made a name for himself painting the abstract figure. He caught the eye of Allan Stone in New York, who brought them to Charles Campbell’s attention in San Francisco. In the 1990s Eckart turned his attention toward the landscape creating richly layered color fields. These are intelligent paintings often taking months to complete. The deliberate application of pigment results in a luscious surface and incredible depth inviting close study and discovery of the intensity within. Charles Eckart attended the University of the Pacific, the Art Center of College and Design in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Art Institute. This piece is done in a sort of sgraffito technique with the flowers sort of etched in the paint. Born in Tokyo, Japan, Nobu Fukui Came to New York where he became a US citizen. From 1964 - 65, he studied at the Art Students League in New York City. His work has been widely exhibited in New York and California. He had his first one-man show in this country in 1965 at the Daniels Gallery in New York. That same year his works were included in the Japanese Artists in Europe and America Exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo. This was followed by numerous exhibits and one-man shows in various cities in the United States and Japan - New York, Indianapolis, Ann Arbor, Pittsburgh and Yokohama, for example. Fukui's works are formal, dynamic and abstract. Form functions minimally as a symmetrical structure so as to focus on his real interest in color interaction.
