Luke Gray
STROKEWORLD

About the Item

Luke Gray has an impressive exhibition history, with 25 group exhibitions and 14 solo exhibitions held in both the United States and international locations. This demonstrates his dedication to sharing his artistic vision and engaging with audiences on a broader scale. The artistic process of Luke Gray is characterized by its spontaneity and the act of being fully present in the moment. Initially, there was an analogy drawn between this process and the improvisational nature of a jazz musician, where creativity flows organically. However, this perspective has evolved, and it's now understood that Gray's artistic world is not simply an external force, like a weather system or quantum field, but a deliberately created realm that is intricate, diverse, and laden with significance. This inner world that Gray constructs is multi-faceted and carries a depth that is still being explored. There's a sense of mystery and complexity to it, and it seems that the observer hasn't completely grasped its entirety. What is evident is that the strength of Gray's artwork lies, in part, in its speed of creation. The rapidity of the process infuses a unique energy into the work, and it strives to harmonize itself with the vibrations of other elements.

    Located in Three Oaks, MI
Michael Kessler makes nature-based paintings that merge geometric elements with biomorphism. He began his art career as a landscape painter. While an undergraduate at Kutztown University Kessler received a fellowship from the Whitney Museum of American Art to study and produce art in New York City at the Whitney Independent Study Program. Michael Kessler’s work explores the continuum between gesture and geometry. Each work consists of as many as 50 micro-thin layers of translucent and transparent acrylic. Biomorphic tendrils branch to and fro, while arcs of line and color slip over and under matrices, balancing nature’s sinuous curves with the mindfulness of structure. He likens the gestural freedom in his works to a kind of painterly “tai chi” – a...

(framed) Please note: Our framing studio could not accommodate the scale of this work, so it is being sold as-acquired. Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York. Landfield joined the David Whitney...
