Maria Poroy
'Revelation' - Blue and Red - Small Contemporary Abstract Expressionism

2023

About the Item

Maria Poroy's "Revelation" is a vibrant 20" x 20" mixed media canvas that exemplifies the spontaneous spirit of contemporary abstract expressionism. The piece is awash with a fiery palette of reds that bleed into cool, soothing blues, creating a visual dichotomy akin to the profound moment of a revelation. Flecks of orange, white, and subtle hints of black are scattered throughout like fragments of insight breaking through the surface. This artwork evokes the intense emotion of sudden understanding, the warmth of the colors suggesting a passionate discovery, while the blues offer a moment of clarity and calm within the storm of realization. Poroy's use of color and form encapsulates the eureka moment of awakening, where chaos gives way to an ordered understanding, mirroring the unpredictable journey of knowledge and self-discovery. Artist Statement: "I have traveled the world and live in beautiful California but I have also been inspired by poetry and the patterns and textures found in old buildings. Sometimes I dream a painting before I paint it; sometimes I have a concept but the painting takes over and goes somewhere else. I am inspired by the masters of the past and so many brilliant living artists I have been honored to learn from. Often asked to demo, people are intrigued by the colors and textures in my work. I prefer acrylic and mixed media because many layers dry quickly and I can manipulate the paint with brushes, my hands, and a collection of unusual tools. I love the spontaneity of large brushes and dripping paint. I enjoy experiments with the media and often incorporate several in a painting. For me it's not about the media so much as getting the effect I want." - Maria Poroy An original piece, one-of-a-kind. Showcased by the American Art Gallery, Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. By Paul Jenkins
    Located in London, GB
Phenomena Greet by Day by Paul Jenkins (1923-2012) Acrylic on canvas 146 x 114.3 cm (57 ½ x 45 inches) Signed lower right, Paul Jenkins Executed in 1994-1996 Provenance: Private collection, New York (acquired directly from the artist) Stern Pissarro Gallery, London Private collection, Netherlands Artist biography Born at Kansas City in Missouri (USA), the multi-media artist, poet and playwright Paul Jenkins studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and the Art Students League in New York City. After his discharge from military service at the end of February 1946, he briefly studied playwriting with dramatist George McCalmon at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. Thereafter, Jenkins spent four years studying with Japanese American artist Yasuo Kuniyoshi in New York City. His first solo exhibitions were held at Studio Paul Facchetti in Paris in 1954 and the Martha Graham Gallery in New York City in 1956. Over the past thirty years, numerous retrospectives have been curated across the globe and Jenkins’ work can found in national collections from Europe and the United States to Israel, Australia and Japan. The diversity of his work springs from Jenkins’ wealth of eclectic influences. Some of his earliest works included what he called "interior landscapes" influenced by ancient natural forms like the caves he visited in the Ozark Mountains in his native-Missouri. Frequent student visits to the Frick Collection in New York fostered a love of the great masters: Bellini, Holbein, Vermeer, Rembrandt, de la Tour, Turner and Goya. In compliment, lingering student visits to the renowned Eastern collection of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City evoked powerful sympathy for a monumental Chinese fresco...
