Marit Geraldine Bostad
Together

2017

About the Item

'Together', 2017 by Contemporary Norwegian artist, Marit Geraldine Bostad. Acrylic on canvas, 61 x 41.5 inches. This brightly neon colored abstract painting features a central, curved linear gesture, interpreting the coming together of two people. Bostad incorporates large painterly strokes in bold colors of red, neon pink, yellow, orange, brown, and grey. The background is painted in beige and white with hints of light blue markings throughout the canvas. Bostad describes her paintings as 'intuitive, rich in color, and passionate---it has a nerve.' They have largely emotional and thoughtful processes behind them. Describing her practice as a 'kind of therapy and a way for her mind to switch off,' Marit Bostad’s feelings about her work are made clear by the lasting affect her paintings have on her audience. Bostad states 'When I paint I go into another place. Not by trying, but just by being. Interaction with my tools, colors, and the white canvas. And when I am in that state – and eventually find a connection to the artwork, I have learned by time, that someone else also connects to it as well. My job is to search for, to know when I am there. And it demands that I be true to myself, open minded and searching for interesting contrasts.' Marit Geraldine Bostad works and lives in Horten in Vestfold County, Norway. Her studio is at an old naval base, where she finds most of her work inspiration in the middle of great nature and historical buildings. Originally an Art Director, Bostad earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Art Direction in 1997 and spent 10 years on visual projects within film, illustration and concept building in Oslo. In 2010 Bostad left her career in Art Direction to pursue her painting full time, and in 2015 she opened her own gallery/studio called Geraldine. The artist has exhibited her work since 2011 in London, Oslo, and New York, and has received substantial recognition from curators as well as galleries and collectors throughout Europe.

(framed) Please note: Our framing studio could not accommodate the scale of this work, so it is being sold as-acquired. Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York. Landfield joined the David Whitney...
