Matt Higgins is an artist and art professor who lives and works in Philadelphia, Pa. He received his MFA from The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and BFA from West Chester University. His work is included in numerous private and public collections throughout the United States, Europe and Australia. His various bodies of work focus on themes of abstraction, the landscape and text based paintings. His work can be viewed as a constant progression, as well as a cycle from one body of work to the next. He often times returns to existing themes or motifs with a fresh outlook after departing for periods of time. Growth and learning is a significant part of the artists practice and this continued openness and exploration is what keeps his work fresh and original from one body of work to the next, never settling for predictability or the mundane.

$325 Sale Price45% Off - Interference, Contemporary Abstract Oil PaintingLocated in Philadelphia, PAIn this piece, the intense use of negative space highlights each individual marks character, weight and texture. The painting explores various types of mark making and paint application inspired by elements of the landscape painted in various thicknesses, intensities and with a variety of different tools. Each mark is calculated and responsive to the one that came before it, creating a cause and effect relationship across the surface of the canvas. Restraint is a key element of this new body of work from artist Matt Higgins and the option to go further is always there. However, the excitement and spontaneity of the piece would therefore be sacrificed. Done in one session of intense meditative focus, A Place We Can See depends upon the exact moment of creation...Category

- The Orange Wall of San Miguel #2By Carole GarlandLocated in Palm Desert, CAA quiet street of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico is the subject of this painting by Carole Garland. An elderly woman cautiously makes her way along a narrow path using a tree to lend support. The orange wall provides much needed shade in the afternoon heat. Light seeps through the branches of a colorful bougainvillea patterning the orange bulwark. Artist Carole Garland who studied art in both San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City shares her appreciation of the simplicity of this quiet backstreet in a Mexican town. A special moment in time is brought to life. Garland uses the scumbling technique and a paint laden palette knife to achieve texture and depth in the leaves, the branches and the rough pavement of the street. This oil on wood panel is 16"x20" and its natural wood sides serve as a frame. The painting is wired for easy hanging. This is a stand-alone artwork but was conceived as a companion piece to Orange Wall of San Miguel #1. Together they are 16"x 40". Artist Carole Garland has appeared in numerous venues throughout Southern California, including several juried California Art Club exhibits and individual shows at TAG Gallery in Los Angeles. Her work has recently appeared at the West Los Angeles College Art Gallery; the Rose Cafe, Venice; Topanga Canyon Art...Category
