This painting incorporates mostly a muted palette of colors in white, beige, blue, yellow, light blue, red, maroon, pink, grey, and black on canvas.
The 'Dream' series offers a glimpse into the artist’s subconscious flow state, as she alternated between bold, intentional brush strokes, line work, architectural sketches and improvisational gestures to depict the vague images and faint memories that occupy our mind immediately upon waking from a dream. Each painting abstractly portrays the mind’s struggle and attempt to recall interactions, movements, figures, and places from our improvised dream-state. Upon waking, we often find ourselves asking the meaning of a dream as we piece together its fragments - fragments that often feel disconnected, superimposed, and overlapped with reality. Each painting represents that brief moment in time when we are simply, waking up. These works are multilayered abstract compositions using traditional mediums.
Rachel was raised on the North Shore of Long Island, New York. As the daughter of an architect, she grew up surrounded by architectural blueprints and sketches, and naturally developed a love for drawing and design. At eight years old, she began playing the cello and eventually went on to earn her Master of Music in Cello Performance. Inspired by the forms, textures and layers found in both orchestral and architectural compositions, Rachel uses canvas as a space for bold intentional gestures with aleatoric outcomes. She likes to work in acrylic, ink, pencil and oil pastel. Rachel lives and paints on Long Island, New York.
