About the Item
Green and red abstract contemporary painting by Houston, TX artist Richard Fluhr. This painting features abstract blue eyes against a background of abstracted green shapes that resemble hands and possibly buildings. This work has a painted black border that creates an illusion that it is framed. Signed by the artist at the bottom left corner. Unframed but framing options are available.
Artist Biography: Richard E. Fluhr was born in New York City in 1955 and moved to Texas to work as an artist. Beginning with ceramics at age 15 and showing at Ola Podrida Gallery in Dallas, he moved on to the University of Texas at Austin. Fluhr received his BFA from the University of Houston followed by a MFA in printmaking at the prestigious Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he graduated magna cum laude. He traveled extensively, painting life along the way in watercolor, oil or acrylic, usually on recycled materials, such as paper bags, pamphlets and receipts. Fluhr exhibited in six galleries in the United States and several galleries in Mexico, where he also maintained a studio in the late 1980s. His art has been shown in the U.S., Russia and Mexico and is represented in over 900 private and public collections, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, NY; the Cranbrook Academy of Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, MI; the Detroit Art Institute, Detroit, MI; and the British Museum, London, England. Richard has exhibited in hundreds of group and one-person shows, with work from Spain, Morocco, Italy, Portugal, Great Britain, France, Belgium, Greece, Hong Kong, Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela and all over the U.S., including New York shortly after 9/11. He taught at the Art Institute of Houston for 17 years and owned and operated REF Studios, a Houston art gallery from 1990 to 2000, at which time illness slowed him down and he semi-retired while collecting art all along the way.

- Yellow, Red, Blue, and Green Toned Abstract Geometric Painting (1/4)By John PalmerLocated in Houston, TXYellow, red, blue, green, and brown abstract geometric painting by Houston, TX artist, John Ross Palmer. This painting resembles Palmer's paintings from his early 2000 work, the Oxford Series. This work is part of a series of four paintings. Unsigned. Unframed but framing options are available. The Oxford style was born in the mid-2000s after Palmer took a winter trip to London. After being moved by the history and formality of the British society during his journey, the paintings born in the aftermath contained a rigid structure. The canvas was often divided into quadrants with splashes of color (red, green, or yellow) in the center. The most tell-tale sign of the Oxford style is a background color of brown for all or part of the canvas. With the Classic Oxford style pieces, it is not uncommon to find a realistic trigger such as an arrow or a black-and-white checkerboard grid. With the Modern Oxford style, Palmer shows more fluidity and less structure. Lighter blues and purples appear. It’s similar to the evolution of the Modern Carnival style – as the artist matures, so does the confidence expressed through the style. Artist Biography: Whether the design is on canvas, metal, wood or paper, Houston Artist John Ross Palmer’s artwork is a testament to his energy, creativity, and passion for life. As Palmer the individual continues to grow, his artwork also maintains a beautiful evolution. From what started as two-dimensional abstract paintings on canvas, his depth of art offered in his Houston, Texas Art Gallery now includes original artwork on custom boxes, furniture, ceiling murals, salvage wood, neon, ceramics, jewelry, unique merchandise, and gifts. His inspiration for the art comes from his travels abroad as well as his local Houston Heights...Category

- Springtime ResurrectionBy Ronnie LandfieldLocated in Austin, TXAcrylic on canvas. Signed, titled, and dated on verso. 86 x 74 in. 87.25 x 75.25 in. (framed) Please note: Our framing studio could not accommodate the scale of this work, so it is being sold as-acquired. The canvas is housed in an original “studio strip” frame installed by the artist. Please see condition notes below for additional details and an assessment of condition. Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York. Landfield joined the David Whitney...Category
