He graduated from Universidad Galileo de Guatemala with a major in Communications with a concentration in Education. He is a graphic designer, creative director, publicist, as well as a professor, teaching university courses on creativity, advertising, and graphic design at his alma mater. His first group show was at the Bienal de Arte Paiz, Guatemala City, in 1992. Since that time Valenz has be featured in over eighty group shows and thirty solo exhibitions in South America and around the world. Among numerous recognitions and awards he was selected as the winner of the “Young Artist” award in 2005, and granted a scholarship to study at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts, Valen. His works are exhibited in the French Allegiance of Guatemala, Forma Museum of El Salvador, private collections in Guatemala, Central America, Europe, Mexico, and the United States of America. Valenz tells stories with everyday objects. “By using elements such as chairs, ladders, beds, monocycles, trapeze artists, swings, machines… it is a way of telling stories about life. The chairs signify, according to the context, opportunities and the patience required for them to step into our lives. The ladders represent our desire to climb, to continue our personal growth. Beds represent periods when we sleep and dream, things we cannot share with anyone else. Playful characters are representative of the uniqueness and singularity of each of the moments that we experience throughout our lifetimes, and the game that life is. Painting is my life.” Valenz uses a graphite pencil as an instrument that reiterates messages across his works. Proposals surge from previous ideas and views, and are redrawn over and over on translucent papers, which offer us the opportunity to construct in our minds the storyline of his works and interpret what their meaning is. When combined with his playful figures, they create systems where they interact in an all-encompassing environment. His figures represent the uniqueness of our experience. The less permanent nature of pencil allows him to continually rework his compositions until his distinctly illustrated figures begin take on a life of their own. These events occur within the walls of certain living spaces, which nevertheless are part of a greater interconnected system. Eddy Lee’s figurative surrealist portrait paintings on exposed wood depict emotive sirens who evoke a sense of mystery and seductiveness. His original artworks combine geometric elements with innocent women portraits seeking to trigger emotions, rather than communicating specific explanations. This colorful, intriguing woman portrait is painted with acrylic and gouache on a hand-built cradled wood panel. This one-of-a-kind original artwork measures 24 inches high by 24 inches wide. It is signed by the artist on the front and back. It is wired and ready to hang. It does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles delivery. By Alexis Portilla
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
This is a beautiful piece by Alexis Portilla, unframed. Re-Enter 30x22 in. Ink, Acrylic, Graphite on paper Unframed Framing available The artist Alexis Portilla obtained his Masters of Fine Arts at Columbia University in 1990. His bold linear lines, use of symbols, pictographs and strong colors create atmospheric abstracts. “Using simple forms and creating swathes of rich texture, Alexis Portilla builds atmospheric abstract paintings that convey a sense of time having passed. Brushy areas of color suggest the indeterminacy of memory, while bold linear forms speak for the present.” - Meredith Mendelsohn, Art News magazine review. Influenced by the emotion of artistic expression in music, poetry and literature, the artist finds bold expression in color, lines and shapes that resemble pictographs, and texture. The artist has shown in group and solo exhibitions nationally for more than 20 years. His works have been commissioned by major corporations, universities and for private collections.
