Bio Matrix, Original Contemporary Mixed Media Abstract Square Polyptych
47" x 47" x .5" (HxWxD), Acrylic on Burlap and Japanese Paper
A nine piece series of color studies and media experimentation come together to create a diverse yet unified grid installation. Each panel is square, and the 9 are displayed in a 3x3 square as well, but the linear nature of the color application gives the piece a sense of verticality. The use of burlap gives each panel a physical texture that creates additional visual interest and infuses the work with a familiarity of sorts.
Each individual panel measures 14" x 14". Overall dimensions, when installed in a square with 2.5" spaces equals 47" x 47".
Artist Commentary:
This installation of nine panels are part of a series of new work that is transforming things that have lingered in my studio unresolved. These pieces of burlap fused to Japanese paper started as larger unpainted panels. I wanted to make them colorful and relational so I cut them into 14" x 14" panels that form a square when assembled.

My art career started with creative writing- researching and experimenting with the idea that abstract art has a knowable and communicable vocabulary. Now, I make objects based on materials and process then create installations around social and/or aesthetic ideas manifesting an integration of image, object and frame into pictures or settings that read as something familiar. Philosophically and socially, I work to strengthen the artist’ relationship with the public at large and to challenge how and where “art” is defined.
