Layering the immediacy of striking, gestural marks with the slow, watery bloom of saturated color, Gammell manages to, within a single plane, evoke depth and unpredictable movement like that of weather patterns, stormy skies, and sweeping wind. The sense of action and lyricism in this work is undeniable, each piece an intuitively-composed coalescence of dichotomies: sharp and soft, fast and slow, positive and negative, graceful and erratic.
