Artist Statement: The unrelenting proliferation of glass and concrete, to name some aspects of modern life, as part of the continuing war against nature in our surroundings and also the continuing rule of the patriarchy has led me to approach my work in a very organic manner and become very women-centered. I am inspired by beading, knitting, embroidery, fabrics, most things considered to be “women’s work” or women’s interest”. I make acrylic on canvas paintings which are organically composed and made in a very meditative way. They actually have a feel of embroidery, beading or knitting as I mentioned above. I also do “marbling” on paper which I then “embroider” with acrylic paint and hang around the space with laundry pins like laundry. Or I hang them in a circle to create a small temple for the Goddess.

- Zahir & Batin, 2020, oil on canvas, figurative paintingLocated in Izmir, TRIn several mystical traditions, there are common elements that are needed for spiritual metamorphosis and transitions to another, transcendent dimension. In Sufism, there is also an inner dimension to the law that has to do with repentance, the abasement of desire, and discipline of the self, or the elimination of the ego. Transparent figures emphasize the inner world of pure innocence which is the prototype human being, pure consciousness, one's true identity, to be contrasted with the material human who is bound by one's senses and materialism. Materialism is shown by also patterns in the paintings. The two different layers are against each other in a contradictory way. Feeling the need to go deeper into this inner, imaginative world, I began to set artworks from the past in less familiar contexts such as seas or patterns and combine the figure with them where they seemed to become like elements in some greater dream. With her small paper works, Ece Gauer...Category

- Nice Try HarveyBy Jenny DayLocated in New Orleans, LA"Lone Star, True But Whatever There was I time when I ached for the world. Before cell phones, before social media, I felt the urgency of environmental damage, of social injustice. Nothing seems to have gotten better. I'm not numb to it, but in some way I've become flip, a resigned humor like a layer of scar tissue between my concerns and the abrasion all around. Still, I was surprised how playful these paintings became. Disasters intertwine: Urns, much like the one that held my twin sister's ashes, a familial disaster, come to the forefront, variations of childhood memory. Images from photos I took in Port Aransas...Category
