Teresa Pemberton
Lighting Up A Dark Room, Abstract Floral Art, Contemporary Still Life Painting

2020

About the Item

Vase of gathered vibrant blooms and leaves in an interior. with collage elements. Slight drawn marks within. The colours of the flowers are a mix of rose, geranium, pink, cerise and yellow showing a contrast to the autumn browns and greens and mauves of the room. The idea was to bring the outside in and so brighten up a dark room. Thickly textured contrasts to flat spaces of colour. Discover new works by Teresa Pemberton with Wychwood Art online and in our art gallery. A professional artist (trained in Hertfordshire where she gained a BA 1st class honours in Fine Art) Teresa moved from the London area ten years ago to a hamlet just over the Tamar Bridge. From this studio she can walk from her gate to soak up the atmosphere of the countryside and estuaries of the Lynher and Tamar. She also has a studio which is part of the Ocean Studios complex in the Royal William Yard, Plymouth. Teresa has a passion for colour and surface texture. The paintings explore the places where water and land meet: boundaries and enclosures of marsh, estuary and shore, sky and sea and the weather.. They have their origins in real places (latterly Cornwall coast paths, the Scilly Isles, Dartmoor) and are underpinned by observational drawings. Work also includes gardens and still life subjects. Back in the studio there is a departure from the pure vision into other worlds where in the end the work is about the essence of paint itself. I am experimental in the wide subject of “what is painting?” allowing myself to involve collage, stitching, or other ephemera on the picture plane. I am also involved in making series of works which question the dichotomies of figurative/abstract, decorative/narrative, pattern/colour fields. I am addicted to oil paint as a sensuous material. • Dian, Jackson Pollock Style Painting, Large Original Statement Abstract Art,
    By Robert Dunt
    Located in Deddington, GB
Robert Dunt, Dian, 2016, oil on canvas, 142.5 x 142.5cm, original painting for sale. "For me these paintings are dealing with colour and space. I’m endeavouring to push simple colour combinations to their absolute limit. For example with this painting the colours pink and black. I wanted to make the colours resonate in our eyes as much as possible. To a degree I was working within the same sphere of investigation as the pointillists, like Paul Signac." Robert Dunt paintings are available to buy online with Wychwood Art. Robert Dunt is an abstract/pop art artist who graduated from City & Guilds of London Art School (2004) with First Class honours. Robert Dunt paintings, prints and installations are inspired by music and explore the use of colour in a contemporary context. His practice has a rebel ethic that distorts art traditions in order to create surprising and original works: “Like putting Botticelli’s Venus through a Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face distortion pedal.” Rebert Dunt has exhibited nationally and internationally. He has had several solo shows - Madonnas and Housemasters, Charterhouse School (2015), Break on Through, Waterloo Gallery (2004) and I Wanna Trip You Up, Covent Garden (2004). Selected group exhibitions include Alien Beauty, Vyner Street; Fun House, The Empire Bethnal Green...

  • Still Life with Fruit
    By Juliane Solignac
    Located in London, GB
'Still Life with Fruit', oil on board (1968), by Juliane Solignac. An engaging yet unusual artwork with vibrant colours, thickly applied with a painting knife. Nonetheless, through the thick paint there is an unfinished quality to the work leaving the impression that the raw canvas - or board in this case - is revealed. Some of the colour seems to have been scored on to the work with an artist's knife leaving lines and creating angles as in a cubist painting. There are layers of paint with no evident brush strokes. One may believe in this instance, Madame Solignac used this technique to create a visual effect which would deliberately have upset traditionalists. Be reminded that the Impressionists were criticised for creating patchy, incomplete works because there were strong notions about the correct way to paint in those days. Picasso once said, 'To finish a work is to kill it.' It is unsure how Mme Solignac would have felt about that. Regardless of this conjecture, the painting is colourful, compelling and rewards the viewer with a curious interest. The work is in fair vintage condition, newly framed with a linen slip. It is signed: 'Julian Solignac 68'. About the Artist: Juliane Solignac (born 1904). Regrettably, there is not much information available about the artist (including what year she may have died). She is referenced as a resident artist in Montmartre in the 1930s, one of only a handful of women in an otherwise sea of male names. In addition, Solignac is mentioned in both French and Dutch references as a creator of fabrics. These may have been more artistic 'tapis' which are hung on the wall like a painting. A Dutch museum references having one of her designs in their collection. Here is a quote from the magazine, 'COTE', Edition Nº 9 (March 2009): "Until 20 April, Pierre Frey is exhibiting 50 printed fabric works from their own collection dating from 1936 to today. Most were produced in liaison with artists like Jean Chatanay, Irène Rohr, Juliane Solignac, Rieffel Anossof, Janine Janet...
