About the Artist: Manhattan based mural and studio artist Tony “Rubin” Sjöman has painted all over the world and his works have been shown in galleries throughout the US and Europe. Sjöman’s roots are in Finland and Sweden and he draws inspiration from his Scandinavian heritage for his complex abstract geometrical murals and studio works. Sjöman has become a staple of the art scene of New York City and beyond. His murals can be seen in a wide variety of spots in and around the city: 
on churches, in hotels and high-end boutiques, in luxury high-rises throughout Manhattan and on the 69th floor of WTC 4. Abstract. Vibrant. Painting. About the Artist: "I contemplate every color, mark, and placement of the line to formulate what I call rhythmic velocities: relationships of color and motion that give life to the composition, creating a heartbeat. I am interested in the duality of math and design: through repetition, a line made of color becomes a rhythmic pattern. This concept is found when composing music, organic landscapes and architectural structures. By referencing these sources, my abstractions transcend their formal components, reaching beyond a minimalist canon. My work is composed of hard edges and thin lines set against an abstract field or a pictorial space. Each color has a quickness that is relative to the colors surrounding it; this gives my paintings visual movement and dislocates the viewer. Through linear and geometric forms, my paintings explore design and mathematical concepts found broadly throughout culture. They are improvised from a wide range of sources such as my conversations with scholars in various fields of music, architecture and engineering, my life experiences and travels." A prolific painter, with an impressive portfolio, Sarah’s talents were recently recognised through the selection of her work at this year’s Royal Academy Summer (Winter) Exhibition and the ING Discerning Eye exhibition at the Mall Galleries. North London based Sarah draws her inspiration from her home city. Her work features iconic cityscapes painted in her distinctive style. Sarah’s use of a limited colour palette of acrylics anchored with white transforms the hustle and bustle of the busy metropolis into calming, serene landscapes with an almost dream-like quality. Her trademark use of thick, creamy, buttery brushmarks give her work a slightly abstract but familiar feel. Up close, you can see her expressive mark making, but stand back and her paintings come to life. Sarah’s past achievements have included exhibiting at the ING Discerning Eye, at the Mall Galleries in 2016 & 2018 and a short-listing for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2015. Her work has also been exhibited at the Affordable Art Fair, The Strand Gallery, Camden Image Gallery and Espacio Gallery. In 2013 she created a series on Battersea Power Station. During the redevelopment of the site, Sarah’s distinctive depiction was selected and reproduced on a large scale for the hoardings of the new development. Recently, Sarah has sought to diversify her artwork through a series of landscapes and seascapes painted in her expressive mark making style. Her ‘dinky’ collection, painted on small postcard sized canvases demonstrate her versatility and ‘Dinky London’ is currently on display at the Royal Academy with three other dinky paintings soon to be virtually exhibited at the ING Discerning Eye.
