About the Item
“Air # 3” by Alexandra Rozenman is a painterly and playful oil painting on un-stretched floating canvas paper approximately 30 x 30 x 0.5” with loose corners. Soft purple washes of water float next to pastel green lines that make us think of the ocean, beaches islands, and shores. White clouds are above us. Black lines are flying birds, seaweed and a rack of a ship. On the right side of the painting we see a white shape with a person in it with a bird on his head and notice that there is a shower above us, wings are growing and hope stretching into the windy air. This landscape painting is oil on un-stretched canvas paper, initialed on the front and titled and dated on the reverse.
Alexandra Rozenman immigrated to America from the Soviet Union in 1989. Russian, European and American myths of national destiny and private identity take on a utopian dimension as she absorbs and expresses the psychology of otherness as fundamental aspects of her own identity. She wants her art to be like a well-worn military wool blanket that gives you warmth, love, and history. The artist states: “Whatever degree of abstraction defines my thinking and visual self-identification it has all to do with the search for my own image in a great existential sea of sweeping change”. Rozenman is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
