About the Item
Brian Mashburn's painting "Running Rabbit" crafted in 2023, is an original oil painting that depicts a rabbit scampering in a landscape with misty mountains in the background. The artwork measures 7 x 13inches and is set within a black "float" frame, extending its size to 8 x 14 inches.
Brian Mashburn is an American artist based in the mountains of North Carolina (Ashville). He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received a BFA in 2002.
Brian's work depicts urban and industrial landscapes in close proximity to the natural world. Primarily an oil painter, Mashburn uses narrative and meticulous attention to detail to engage the viewer. His landscapes are often both heavy handed and subtle, universally applicable and allegorical.
Mashburn's influences range from everyday observations to his Asian-American heritage. He cites his childhood experience of going to Chinese language school on weekends as the origin for his interest in the painted line as well as his strong work ethic. Moreover, the heavy mists of Appalachia and smog of southeastern China and Hong Kong inform his foggy aesthetic.
