About the Item

Rule the Roost is a 16 x 20 framed oil painting of a Rooster.. This rooster is from Luckenbach, Texas . Luckenbach is famous for Rusty the Rooster. Framed size is x Roosters can usually be differentiated from hens by their striking plumage, marked by long flowing tails and bright pointed feathers on their necks. The rooster is larger and more brightly colored than the hen, he also has a larger comb on top of his head. The most well known reason why a rooster crows is the early morning call. Roosters will start to crow before sunrise and he will be one of the first out of the coop in the morning to check the area for predators and sound the all clear for the rest of the flock. Roosters make a very loud crowing sound usually very early in the morning but they can crow anytime of the day. Their loud shrill is a territorial sign to other roosters. They can also be quite aggressive birds. Hens lay eggs that range in color from white to pale brown and other pale colors depending on the breed. Artist Statement: " I am inspired by the simple everyday interaction of the animals as in the Ducks in their environment: the way the light dances across the form, the harmony of color relationships and the shapes of light and shadow. I prefer early-morning light or late afternoon settings, with extreme back-lighting. My focus is on the farm animals, their character and the use of color, light and texture to convey a mood.
