Damien Hirst
British artist Damien Hirst is widely considered the enfant terrible of contemporary art. He is the most prominent of the so-called Young British Artists, or YBAs, a group, largely composed of Hirst’s classmates at Goldsmiths, in London, that began exhibiting together in warehouses and factories after 1988 and is known for the use of unconventional materials and “shock tactics.”
In the 1990s, Hirst said, “I can’t wait to get into a position to make really bad art and get away with it.” And indeed, he is notorious for piquing critics and baffling the public with such pieces as his signature glass vitrines containing dead sheep or sharks in formaldehyde, and his diamond-encrusted skull, For the Love of God.
Working primarily in sculpture, Hirst takes after French modernist master Marcel Duchamp in his use of ready-made objects and materials, which he combines to ironic effect. He often creates in series, as with The Cure (Violet) and The Cure (Turquoise), both from 2014, which are among several pill paintings referencing Andy Warhol’s embrace of mass production. Belonging to his ongoing series of “spot” paintings, begun in the 1980s, the 2005 piece Xylene Cyanol Dye Solution is striking for its machinelike, industrial uniformity and almost childlike simplicity, a seeming rebuke to the idea of the artist-as-genius.
In addition to making art, Hirst has launched stores that sell editioned works (Other Criteria), a restaurant (Pharmacy2) and even his own London museum (Newport Street Gallery).

- AYAKAMAY Mad Supper paintingBy AyakamayLocated in NEW YORK, NYAYAKAMAY, "Mad Supper," 2013: The work of the late New York based artist, AYAKAMAY (1985-2019), combines reality with fantastically constructed traditional Japanese cultural aesthetics to create a dialogue between contemporary American urban identity and femininity. Medium: Acrylic & Spray Paint on Canvas. Dimensions: 36 x 48 x 1 inches. Very good overall condition. Unique. Signed & titled on the verso in black marker. Provenance: Ideal Glass Studios New York. Ayakamay (1985-2019) Biography: Born in 1985 in Tennessee, Ayakamay’s family moved several times in the US due to her father’s job and also traveled back and forth to Japan where the family decided to settle down when she was ten. Having been raised in an American lifestyle, the shift to Japan was especially confusing and overwhelming. As she was being forcibly shoved into a cultural mold that did not fit, she sought solace in art. Eventually Ayakamay’s parents decided art was a negative distraction and took away her art supplies. This led to the darkest period in her life, but served as an impetus for her to find new ways of expression via photography. At nineteen, Ayakamay headed for New York City and prior to her tragic passing in 2019, exhibited & performed with great consistency in both New York & Tokyo while being featured in publications such as, I-D magazine, Hyperallergic, The New York Times & Artnet News. - Companies -- contemporary landscape painting w/ figure, animals & blue flowersBy Henry BermudezLocated in Bryn Mawr, PAHenry Bermudez is a seasoned American contemporary artist born in Venezuela. Emerged from the Caribbean tropics, his artistic life has been an unexpected hybrid of ideas informed by an acute sensitivity to the past, stenciled as part of a personal inventory onto different foreign places that throughout his life have become his home and his artistic working territory. "My paintings are steeped in mythical dream imagery within an otherworldliness of carefully constructed creature and plant forms. Further defined by my identity as a Latino, my work combines symbols and myth from ancient pre-Hispanic cultures with the iconography of contemporary art. The result of this autobiographical vision is a blend of cultural diversities that further defines itself through my immersion in societies other than the one I was born into. Through my exposure to religious and social syncretism, my visual itinerary became charged with powerful influences which provided a unique vision of the African Diaspora in the Americas, its symbolism, and iconography." - Henry Bermudez The acrylic and glitter on canvas painting "COMPANIES" depicts an Afro-Latinx figure with animals and blue, silver, and red flowers. In the Venezuelan coastal Afro-Caribbean community of Borbures, religious and social syncretism provided a unique vision of the African Diaspora in the Americas with its symbolism and iconography. Bermudez’s journey of unique geographical, artistic and human observation has taken him from educational experiences in small isolated communities in the Caribbean up to representing Venezuela in the Venice Biennial. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PA); Neuberger Museum of Art (Purchase, NY); Modern Art Museum of Mexico (Mexico City); Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin); Venezuela National Gallery (Caracas); Museum of Contemporary Art (Maracay, Merida, Maracaibo, Caracas); Modern Art Museum of Costa Rica; Museum of Art a Ralli @Punta Del Este Uruguay; and many private collections across the globe. Since his arrival in the USA in 2003, Bermudez has been commissioned by the Mural Arts Program of Philadelphia on several major projects. In 2011, he was one of a handful of artists chosen to work with the Philagrafika print collaborative founded by artistic director and curator Jose Roca. In 2012 Mr. Bermudez received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. He was elected to present an installation at The Philadelphia International Airport Art...Category
