Juliette Dumas
Golden Dolphin (Delphes Tale) Blue Fresco and Gold Leaf painting on wood panel

2020

About the Item

For this work Dumas used the ancient fresco technique and real gold leaf on wood panel. Following her critically acclaimed Whale Flukes Paintings series (2018-2019), Dumas’ continues her engagement to the Rio Negro Manifesto (created by Pierre Restany in 1978) which is “Art for Nature” and raising Consciousness about Earth and the Natural World through Art. With “DELPHES TALE”, Dumas pursues her exploration of Marine Cetacean mammals of the Delphinidae family: Dolphins. It is the story of our conscious evolution in contact with the primordial intelligence of our planet alive in our Oceans. Myths and legends abound about the mysterious communion between humans and dolphins from the dawn of time. Veneered as the messengers of the Gods, their task is to communicate with the children of the Earth, they are the carriers of messages of our progress, the keepers of the “Sacred Breath of Life”. Manna, the life force of the Universe. Apollo himself transformed as a dolphin (his Sacred Animal) to guide men to the site of the City of Delphi, were Greek Civilization was born. In harmony with the waves and tides, singing in their own language, Dolphins follow the rhythm of the Oceans. The fact that they live in peace, without destroying the planet, indicates that they live in a state of grace. We have a lot to learn from them about this state. “ Deep inside of us there is calmness. Deep inside the calmness there is love. Dolphins thought me this" - Jacques Mayol, Homo Delphinus: the Dolphin Within Man. Jacques Mayol (1 April 1927 – 22 December 2001) was a French diver and the holder of many world records in free diving. The 1988 film The Big Blue, directed by Luc Besson was inspired by his life story and that of his friend, Enzo Maiorca. Mayol was one of the screenwriters and authored the book Homo Delphinus: the Dolphin Within Man of his philosophy about the aquatic origins of humans.

  • Everything is Early (Colorful Autumn colors Large Abstract Oil painting, Nature)
    By Richmond Burton
    Located in Cody, WY
Richmond Burton’s works are known for their kaleidoscopic color, undulating patterns, and lyrical handling of expressionistic mark making. His Visceral, seductive, and organic compositions play with decorative patterning without compromising a conceptual backbone. Their intensity of vision allows for transcendent thought, experience, and connection while challenging any preconceived norms or rules defining abstract painting. “Structure is never absent; it’s just uninsistent, even accidental. The paintings are built up in stages, but never give the impression of being hard-worked. They have a fluid, textural presence, like luxury fabrics printed with overlapping, off-register layers of patterning.” — Holland Cotter, The New York Times (1999). Richmond Burton (b. 1960, Talladega, AL) obtained a BA in architecture from Rice University Houston, TX (1984). He lives and works in Woodstock, NY. Burton has shown extensively both domestically and internationally and has work in the collections of The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL; The Broad, Los Angeles, CA; Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX; Fogg Museum at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, NY; and National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, among others. Recent solo exhibitions include venues such as Sarah Moody Gallery of Art at University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL (2015); Silas Marder Gallery, Bridgehampton, NY (2014); Philip Slein Gallery, St. Louis, MO (2013); and George Lawson...
