Lisa Palombo, "Secretariat 31 Lengths", Horse Race Equine Acrylic Painting

2022

About the Item

This colorful equine impressionist painting, "Secretariat 31 Lengths" by artist Lisa Palombo is a 18x24 acrylic sketch on watercolor paper. Depicted is a portrait of racing legend Secretariat running the 1973 Belmont Stakes as he comes around the final corner about to cross the finish line. The 1973 Belmont Stakes was the 105th running of the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, held on June 9, 1973. Facing a field of five horses, Secretariat won by 31 lengths, the largest margin of victory in Belmont history, in front of a crowd of 69,138 spectators. His winning time of 2 minutes and 24 seconds still stands as the American record for a mile and a half on dirt. The event was televised and broadcast over the radio. The bright vibrant colors of this acrylic sketch capture the movement and exciting energy of thoroughbred horse racing. This majestic piece is matted and framed under glass. Secretariat is widely considered to be the greatest racehorse of all time and the most recognizable name in thoroughbred racing. Big Red, as he is most often affectionately referred, became America’s Horse after his historic Triple Crown win in 1973, winning the Belmont Stakes by an unimaginable 31 lengths (in world record time) in what stands today as the single greatest horseracing performance ever. Lisa Palombo is a renowned Contemporary American Impressionist known for her expressive brushwork and fearless use of color. She produces magical florals, still lifes and landscapes in a unique style that is unmistakable and is considered a master of color and the natural form.
