Marie Channer
Marie Channer, "Moonlit", 40x60 Equine Horse Silhouette Oil Painting on Canvas

2019

About the Item

This piece, "Moonlit", is a 40x60 equine oil painting on canvas by artist Marie Channer. Featured is a horse caught mid run, silhouetted by the moonlight above. This minimalist approach to capturing a horse in motion creates a dramatic effect with the stark black background that wraps around the canvas sides, no need for framing. Upon viewing from afar, one would assume this is a photograph from the precise muscle definition and mane blowing in the wind. About the artist: Channer currently resides in the mountains south of Nederland, Colorado. Her oil paintings are inspired by her surroundings out West as well as her love for horses. She enjoys painting horses, portraits, and landscape. Many times her work will include themes such as music, dance, and ballet. There is a great emphasis on light and shadow in Channer’s paintings, creating contrast and drama. Her subtle tones create a mysterious, luscious quality and trigger an emotional response from the viewer. Along with painting, Channer enjoys studying Old Masters techniques as well as teaching the art of painting with oils. She has won numerous awards for her paintings such as The People’s Choice Award in the Louisville National Art Show, and Best in Show at the Gilpin Art Association National Show. Her work can be found in prestigious private collections throughout the United States.
