About the Item

Reflections #1, Original Animal Still Life Painting, 2013 20" x 10" x 1.5 (HxWxD) Acrylic on Canvas Almost surreal, this animal study by artist Robert Crooker highlights the beauty of the blue heron as it makes it way through a gray seascape. Artist Commentary: A Blue Heron, or maybe 2... Artist Biography: Robert Crooker was born in Massachusetts in 1951. A life long Red Sox fan, he saw the likes of Frank Malzone, Yaz, George Scott, Rico, Jim Lonborg all play in years gone by. He has been married for over 27 years with 4 children, and 2 grandchildren. In the Mid-1970’s, Robert started collecting Vintage Disney Collectibles dated from the 1930’s and 40’s. His passion for collecting grew so rapidly that in the 1980’s it became a business. He bought and sold “DISNEYANA” worldwide, realizing thousands of dollars for single pieces of rare highly sought after Disney merchandise. Robert is the leading world expert on the values of these collectibles. As an adventure in American art, these rarities were created during a time when toy manufacturers had art departments employed with many artists that created some of the most beautiful children’s toys ever created. While running Disneyana – Mouse Man Ink business, Robert was painting acrylic on canvas. After EBAY came along and stole the show Robert went on a 20 year hiatus from collecting and painting. Upon his return to the painting studio, Robert was amazed to find that the time and distance actually sharpened his skills and improved his confidence.

  • Snowy Blue Jay
    By Marion Buricatu
    Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: I have been asked numerous times by my loyal customers to create more holiday winter cards of my paintings. As I was looking outside my window in this month of March, the snowy scenes in front of me were an ideal inspiration for me. And to make things even better for my creative juices, Paris had just been covered a few weeks before by a couple inches of snow. This happens very rarely and the whole city was paralysed. Parisians were unhappy, as always, but Paris under the snow is magnificent. I asked my good parisian friend to share with me the pictures she took of Paris under the snow. Between the winter view from my window and my friend’s pictures, I had enough material to immerse myself into this project. In 3 weeks, I created 8 paintings and I had the best time of my life!!! I wish I could do that all the time. I painted holiday lights, ornaments, some snow, and I even had an american cardinal in snowy Paris!!! I felt right at home between my 2 countries: France and the US! What wintery scenes or holiday scenes do you find magnificent? Words that describe this piece: snow, tree, blue jay...

Carter’s paintings and prints have been exhibited at the Zenith Gallery, Washington, D.C., the Horizon Gallery, New York, and the Bell Gallery, Greenwich, Connecticut. His still lifes display the influence of Surrealist painters of the 1930s such as Rene Magritte and Max Ernst. Like the Surrealists, Carter juxtaposes unexpected objects – teacups, whales, and blue skies, for example – which often sit uncomfortably within his pictorial space. But he has also been influenced by the late-nineteenth-century American trompe l’oeil painters William Harnett...
