Charlotte Andry Gibbs
"Amazing Painting" Pop-Art Americana Red Yellow Blue bold bright & cartoon- like

2018

About the Item

Charlotte Gibbs’ "flag," "stars," and text paintings often reference the artist's interest in Pop art and sometimes incorporate 23 karat gold leaf in addition to oil paint, but not always. With its depiction of the word "Amazing" in a cartoon-like bright yellow environment floating against a brilliant blue ground, "Amazing" is at once lovely and bold. Beautifully painted and exquisitely executed, Gibbs' elegant works of rich color are sophisticated examples of the artist's ability to invoke whimsy while demanding serious attention, and her simple white wood frames are the perfect complement . Gibbs is often commissioned to paint variations on her 'flags' and 'stars' to customize scale, orientation, palette, and/or symbols of particular significance to the client. “Amazing Painting” Oil and Acrylic on Linen 17 3/4 x 23 3/4 Inches Cate McQuaid, “The Boston Globe,” January 12, 2013: “Gold brightens up the darkest days of the year at Beth Urdang Gallery, and Charlotte Andry Gibbs makes liberal use of it in her paintings. Gibbs focuses on iconography, using gold leaf and paint to re-create flags, corporate logos, and legendary works of art. While crafting a gold American flag, or a Coca-Cola or Chevrolet logo in gold feels like a too obvious jab at capitalism, all the works together draw intriguing formal connections.” Charlotte Andry Gibbs attended Newcomb College and received a BFA in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston in 1971. She has had numerous one-person exhibitions at the Beth Urdang Gallery and has been included in over 25 group shows, primarily in the New England area where the artist resides. Most recently Gibbs had the distinct honor of being awarded First Prize in the Roddy Compeition held at the Concord Center for Visual Arts, where she was singled out among the 540 submissions by 340 artists by Katherine French, the Director.

  • Andy Warhol - Portrait Painting Color Beige Yellow Green Orange White Black
    By Vlado Vesselinov
    Located in Sofia, BG
"Andy Warhol" is a painting by Maestro Vlado Vesselinov. About the painting: Style and Technic: POP ART, Contemporary, Acrylic paint, oil on canvas The painting is unframed. The paintings bring emotion of happiness, love, energy and beauty represented by the vast creative power of his talent.” Maestro Vesselinov has track records of multiples exhibitions. His works are owned in privet collections around the word. Painting of the Bulgarian artist Vlado Vesselinov is a great example that the vintage style prevails lately and is also present in the world of contemporary art. The work of Vesselinov should be read as an expression of nostalgia and fascination with the past - fashion, design and pop culture of the 60s. A characteristic feature of these images is a clearly visible texture of the canvas, which remind us pages that someone snatched from a fashion magazine found in the attic. It's similar to the effect used by Quentin Tarantino in his recent productions, where full of dirt and defects film reels pulls the audience in a unique atmosphere of a Drive-in theater. As for the colors of Vesselinov artworks, he clearly refers to the psychedelic record covers of Jimi Hendrix or Jefferson Airplaine. Vlado Vesselinov born in 1977 Bulgaria Solo exhibitions: 1998 – solo exhibition, Kyustendil, Bulgaria 1999 – solo exhibition – Gallery Kovachev, Kyustendil, Bulgaria 2000 – solo exhibition – Art Gallery "Vladimir Dimitrov...
