About the Item

EMILY VAN HORN My soul purpose is as a catalyst for transformation. As a visual starting point I draw inspiration from urban surroundings, the crumbling splendor of a half torn down apartment in Barcelona, painted over graffiti on concrete walls under LA freeways, an engaging soundtrack or an intention setting meditation can all become resources. Gesture, line, shape, collage, and a variety of palettes, bring life to canvas, panel, or paper. With support of the grid for structure, intuitive marks begin the dialogue. A hierarchy emerges and decisions are made regarding what it essential and what must be let go. Layering and removing paint, adding and covering line, the conversation continues until a particular frequency resonates and there is a sense of balance and connection. The act of painting has been about letting go and surrendering to what wants to come through. For the viewer the work holds potential for trasnsformational impact, allowing for subtle or dramatic internal resulting in a vibrational shift, raising frequency, for those who resonate with it. Linda Jacobson's paintings are lyrical abstractions inspired by her love of landscape and its elements: form, movement, light, and what she perceives to be its essence an energy or quality that goes beyond visual appearance. Born in Los Angeles, she received her BFA from California State College, Northridge, and graduated Summa cum Laude from the prestigious Art Center College of Design where she was mentored by pioneer California modernist Lorser Feitelson. Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York. Landfield joined the David Whitney...
