About the Item
The artwork titled "Kuluso (Ant-Lion Larvae)" is a captivating piece that portrays a man standing beside a woman carrying a child who is breastfeeding. The artwork was created by Nigerian artist Adegbenro Adeola.
The artwork features a man and a woman, both dressed in traditional clothing. The woman is holding a child who is suckling on her breast, while the man stands beside her, his gaze fixed in distance.
The title of the artwork, "Kuluso (Ant-Lion Larvae)," is derived from the Yoruba language. The ant-lion larvae, or kuluso in Yoruba, is a small insect that is found in the region and is known for its tenacity and resilience. The title is significant in that it speaks to the strength and resilience of the people of Nigeria, who have endured many challenges and hardships throughout their history.
The artwork is a powerful representation of the bond between a mother and child, and the role of the father in supporting and protecting his family. The woman's nudity and the child's breastfeeding symbolize the natural, life-giving aspect of motherhood, while the man's presence suggests the importance of male support in the nurturing of children.
Furthermore, the artwork also speaks to issues of cultural identity and the legacy of colonialism in Nigeria. The use of traditional clothing reflects Adegbenro Adeola's desire to celebrate and preserve Nigerian cultural heritage. This is particularly significant in a country that has experienced a long history of colonization and cultural erasure.
In conclusion, "Kuluso (Ant-Lion Larvae)" is a beautiful and thought-provoking artwork that speaks to issues of family, cultural identity, and resilience. Adegbenro Adeola's use of color, form, and symbolism creates a powerful representation of the human form that is both visually striking and emotionally resonant. The artwork serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving cultural heritage and the role of the family unit in sustaining and nurturing society.

- See Beyond 1Located in Ibadan, OyoI stared at the man with keen interest, hoping to know more about what life has in store for me. The man looked at me sternly, and I couldn’t be more convinced he had seen everything, including my afterlife. A strange language jolted me back to reality as I realized the lady in the room had arrived at the intersection where "Malaicha" and other spirits were. I watched in confusion as the man quickly scribbled down what appeared to be an interpretation of the foreign tongue. My patience dwindled per second as the man kept penning down words. To shorten a long story short, the interpretation was presented in bold letters. My background was also written as additional proof of the veracity of the "spirit." I became eager to know the way forward. "Abeg, Sir, and Ma help my life." "I want to come out of my family's shackles and enemies," I pleaded. They exchanged a knowing look as if they’d been anticipating this moment. My pockets started running dry while my anxiety spiked. I was told to join their religion and denominations. Of course, it’s preferable to go from "God" to "God" in spiritual warfare. I wish to go back to the point of ignorance, where no one was after my life and every day was another day to conquer. A few months later, I realized that to see beyond any circumstances, we must be at ease and calm; we are better able to discern people’s motivations. To see beyond is to see with our inner eyes rather than filthy, unknown eyes. To see beyond is to remain steadfast in personal prayer and to hold out hope that your prayers will be heard. To see beyond is to see beyond the limitations of flesh, realizing that you are gods. Part of my "Nude in Interior" series Original painting, one a kind. No need for frame. Shipping directly from the artist's studio, stretched, wide stretcher. 15.7x15.7x2in / 40x40x5cm "As a woman artist I’ve been preoccupied with the female form and imagery. My goal is to capture the nude’s relation to the surrounding space and the solitary moments. My interest turned from depicting the space to depicting the atmosphere, and the feeling a woman adds to the environment: warmth, joy, a feeling of power and control, or the opposite – sadness, despair. The human figure is more present than ever in my paintings." Paula CraioveanuCategory
