About the Item
Alexander O. Levy was a painter, illustrator,
printmaker and designer who was born in 1881 in Bonn, Germany. He
died in 1946 in Buffalo, New York. At age three, he was brought to
Cincinnati, Ohio, and he later moved to Buffalo, New York, where he
was an illustrator, commercial artist, and painter.
He studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy with Frank Duveneck, and
studied with William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri. He was a
member of the Buffalo Society for Sanity in Art and exhibited at the
Salons of America, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Albright Art Gallery.
