About the Item
Summer is here! Artist Carole Garland evokes a beach day mood with these four teenage girls walking along the shoreline after a swim. Garland depicts these youthful figures in motion and challenges traditional realism in favor of a contemporary aesthetic in which background and foreground merge and the artist's perception prevails.
Garland enjoys painting figures on the beach because inhibitions are relaxed as carefree men and women sprawl on their beach towels and bask in the noonday sun.
Carole Garland has shown in many Southern California venues, most recently at TAG Gallery, Bergamot Station; West Los Angeles College Gallery; Rose Cafe, Venice, CA; realART Gallery, Agoura Hills; Santa Paula Art Museum, and the Channel Islands Studio Gallery. She is in numerous art collections in Southern California and throughout the country.

Carole Garland
Carole Garland, born and raised in Chicago, graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., She studied figure drawing and oil painting at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of the Americas, Mexico City. After moving to Los Angeles she studied privately with Keith Finch, Venice. Concurrent with her art pursuits, Garland worked as a magazine editor, publicist, director's assistant, book editor, and sales executive. After a brief hiatus from painting, she looked to the outdoors for inspiration and began plein air watercolor studies with Don Blaisdell, UCLA.
