About the Item
'Void' features the face of a young woman with ladybugs and intricately patterned queen's lace. The painting in red-orange, sea green and white and is 16 x 12 1/2 inches, unframed, wired and ready to hang. Artist signed, titled, dated Verso. Condition is excellent. Presented by Andra Norris Gallery in Burlingame, CA.
Chikako Okada’s autobiographical oil paintings, bridge traditional realism with magical realism and surrealism. The artist uniquely addresses questions of the human condition through her meticulously detailed, and patterned paintings. They are mesmerizing, rich in symbolism, and reference feminine power, vulnerability, sadness, longing, and desire. The paintings often feature young women — adolescent girls and boys — mysteriously posed, leaving their circumstances to the viewer's interpretation. The artist is inspired by the paintings of European masters, Mexico's Frida Kahlo, and the American surrealists. The painting is lovely on its own or hanging in a collection of other small Okaka paintings.
Educated in Japan and the United States. Okada received her BS and MFA at San Francisco's Art Institute. She has exhibited internationally over a 30-year period and her paintings are collected worldwide.
