A recent sojourn to India has provided a very productive creative period for Francesca Owen. Her palette reflects the warmth, spice and amazing colours of the subcontinent. These myriad tones and nuances of colour are used to beautiful and evocative effect on her expressionist canvasses. Dreaming is subtly nuanced to reflect calmness and tranquillity that enables an almost transcendental reflection of deep sleep and the dream world.

Francesca Owen is an award-winning painter. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art on scholarship, under the tutorship of Phyllida Barlow RA CBE, and winning two prizes there, including the Euan Uglow Memorial Scholarship. Francesca has shown work in galleries across the country and lead talks including at Porthmeor Studios in St Ives. In teaching Francesca led two courses at St Ives School of Painting, Francesca continues to teach her own courses and has undertaken several residencies including one in SE Asia and two in Cornwall. In painting Francesca has focused on landscapes and stories through travel with figure and abstraction. Often heavy, textural paint and a light palette define her work. Her work has been recently chosen by the critic’s choice in Tatler magazine.
