About the Item

Raquel. Images of woman on abstract background. Mixed media on panel. Measurements: 81 x 65 x 0.5 cm / Framed 103 x 87 x 5 cm In inches: 31.89 x 25.59 x 0.2 " / Framed 40.55 x 34.25 x 1.97 " "Raquel" was painted by Goyo in 1999 ( signature and date in right down corner) using a mixed technique. On abstract background that plays with colors, shapes, and volumes, Goyo portrays a beautiful woman's face with a penetrating gaze. There, almost like a collage, an academic female nude, surrounded by floral decorations. We must highlight the daring composition -structured in geometric modules-; the mixture of very realistic figuration and abstraction with which Goyo manages to convey an image of enormous classicism. The panel was previously treated by the artist to give it texture before starting to apply color. Here are a few words from the artist: “From a very young age, I began to feel attracted by the art of painting, and as of today it continues being my greatest passion.  The first thing I do when I start a painting is to cover the surface with spots of paint, lacking concrete form. Later, I calmly observe these spots and I begin to perceive images that little by little I transform into concrete forms, for example, a landscape, a fruit, figures, and faces.  During this creative process, I try to respect as much as possible the expressive energy from those original spots, as they are the roots that sustain the work. I like to use different pictorial techniques: coal, graphite, watercolor, acrylic, oil…They are different paths that always convey you to the same destiny: the emotion of expressing with images your own ideas and feelings, your own life experiences”. In 2002, Ediciones Sammer published a monograph about Goyo, the first of a collection entitled "Great Contemporary Artist" which has 240 pages as well as reproductions from most of his work from its beginning until publication. "Raquel " appears published on page 161. That same year, The Spanish Philatelic Postal and Telegraphic Service issued a beautiful series of eight self-adhesive stamp depicting reproductions of eight works by Goyo Domínguez which have "music" as a common theme, as well as a stamp to commemorate Christmas.

Eddy Lee’s figurative surrealist portrait paintings on exposed wood depict emotive sirens who evoke a sense of mystery and seductiveness. His original artworks combine geometric elements with innocent women portraits seeking to trigger emotions, rather than communicating specific explanations. He reconciles the unconscious with rational life, exploring the power of dreams, embracing automatism, and freeing his subjects from the constraints of conscious thought. This colorful, intriguing woman portrait is painted with acrylic and gouache on a hand-built cradled wood panel. This one-of-a-kind original artwork is 24 inches high by 48 inches wide and is signed by the artist on the back. It is wired and ready to hang. It does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with this unique work. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Eddy Lee relocated to Los Angeles in late 2012 to pursue a full-time career as a fine artist.
