Greta Wehbé
Shadows II, original oil painting by Greta Wehbé

2015

About the Item

"Shadows II" Oil on canvas 30 x 30 x 2 cm (35 x 35 x 3.5 cm frame included) Signed lower right Although small in size, this painting by Greta is very strong. An incredible light emanates from it. She has worked on a subtle set of contrasts with the shadows cast by the trees on the ground of her garden. This place inspires her and becomes her favorite subject, her garden or rather the nature that surrounds her. Here again, it's the sensation of a moment that is transcribed with accuracy and simplicity. Greta is an honest artist who paints instinctively, expressing the sincere emotions that make her work so touching. Greta was born in 1959 in Beirut, Lebanon, her artistic career began with studies in interior architecture at the University of Kaslik, then continued in France at the Beaux-Arts d'Aix-en-Provence, France where she discovered and refined her love of painting under the teaching of French artist Vincent Bioulès, and of engraving, the study of which enriched her painting. After graduating in 1984, she moved to the Paris region to attend the Beaux-Arts de Paris, where she studied lithography and painting techniques for two years. Greta is fascinated by the changing beauty of the landscape around her, drawing her inspiration from nature, capturing and taming its shapes and movements. Her drawings, paintings and engravings are windows onto precise moments, fleeting fragments of time, constantly renewed in the immensity of nature. Her work focuses on light and shadow, bringing to life striking contrasts imaged, which she defines as "moments captured in the illusion of time". Instants of the sea and instants of the countryside, where nature is honored in each season.
