"Summertime" is Jim Salvati's vision of a vintage summer by the shore. Salvati's realist approach to a scene—usually featuring a lone figure—conveys more a snapshot of an emotive moment rather than a portrait of the subject. Salvati revels in working with the internal friction of oil paint: “My paintings are extremely thick and layered. I can keep the colors moving until I like what they have done to the piece.” The results are abstract strokes finely calibrated to evoke realist impressions. Salvati's aquatic influences in his paintings are fueled by his home in Malibu, CA.
