This artwork titled "Cahro Di Gnano" c. 1990 is an oil painting on canvas by noted Italian artist Lido Bettarini, 1927-2019. It is signed at the lower left corner by the artist. Also signed on the back. With the previous owner tag and stamp, Galleria d'Arte Pontevecchio, Firenze. The canvas size is 19.65 x 27.65 inches. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Lido Bettarini was born in Sesto Fiorentino (fi) on February 2, 1927. As a boy he was strongly attracted to drawing and painting. It comes from a family of potters, so that is still very young and was later introduced to his father’s work to the worker Richard Ginori and inserted in the environment of the renowned Tuscan craftsmanship. His artistic talent and talent are now expressed in the creation of models, although his imagination leads the artist looking for more free spaces. So he began to frequent the studio of Gino Wells, who encouraged him to enroll doing Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he attended for three years the School of Nude and graduated. Lido Bettarini studies the painting of the great masters in museums in Florence, but is also attracted by modern art. He began his studies of various artists, including those of Ottone Rosai and Settala. He always traveled and stayed in Italy and abroad in search of new images and ideas, much to move to live on the French Riviera. The artist appears as a painter of Tuscan landscapes with endless variations on the theme of the Tuscan countryside with its villages and its cities. Also he loves to paint seascapes, often depicting sailing ships at sea, as well as see in the distance the coast and some fishing village, from Cannes to Portofino to the Amalfi Coast and beyond. Among his works there are also many still lifes. And ‘one of the founders of “Simone Martini” while in the 70s inspired by a mystical vein creates large paintings of sacred art including a crucified Christ in the Church of Saints Fiorentin and a St. Joseph the Worker. In 1984/85 run to the Abbey of Vallombrosa a Via Crucis. He painted the most hotels in Sorrento, while its exhibitions are all over the world, Canada, France, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. In 1986 he received the commission to execute the official portrait of Pope John Paul II and in 1989 wrote an autobiographical book, “Angels and Demons”, remained on the charts for fourteen weeks of the five best-selling books. Also passionate about film, produced for the TV show different enough to win a National Award for a documentary on the Viareggio Carnival. In September 2005 it published a new memoir, “Forces of Nature”, the novel that led him to a new literary vein. At eleven years old, it was the Great War and his Certificate of Studies in his pocket, he first worked in the fields of the village farms, then until he was 17, he was employed at the Coeuvres distillery where he is responsible for the proper functioning of the machines. In 1925 he did his military service at the barracks of St Vincent de Laon (Aisne) in the 101st heavy artillery regiment as a pointer brigadier, and he was already drawing on notebooks. At the end of his service, having chosen to go to Paris to take drawing and painting lessons, he became a cashier at the Grand Magasins du Louvre. He begins to discover Paris, its districts, its buildings, shops, churches. During the week he sets up his easel on the sidewalks of Montmartre, Notre Dame, where the Latin Quarter and on Sundays, he sells these paintings on Boulevard Raspail. He took part in the Battle of France in September 1939at june 1940. He testifies in a notebook of the events and emotions he has gone through. After the Second World War, he set up his home and studio in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, but he remained very attached to his native village where he went very regularly. Married, he takes his family almost every summer to the Côte d'Azur where he paints with great pleasure the warm colors and the intense light of the Esterel or the Var coast. He participates in many Parisian salons and exhibitions in Paris and province. Awarded at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants in 1961, as well as at the Salon Violet in Paris. From 1967, Mrs. Rosenthal of the Galerie Haussmann (Paris), regularly exhibited her works on "Old Paris" which particularly appealed to British and American tourists. His studies from early youth included travel and visits to major museums in Europe. During a visit to the United States, Carlo was introduced to the Native American Indian and the rich history of the American West. He moved to Southern California in 1960 and still calls it home today. Between 1960 and today, Carlo has traveled throughout the Southwestern United States and Mexico. For many years, he lived among the Navajo and Zunis, painting a great many surreal works that embodied their legends and outlook. He also spent 2 years in Mexico living among the Huichol people in the inaccessible mountains north of Tepic, painting the Indian religion and the white man's religion as seen through Huichol eyes.
