Livia Xandersmith
"Til Death Turns Digital", Oil Paint on Canvas, Bright Colors, Surrealism

2024

About the Item

A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Xandersmith introduces warps, glitches, and digital surrealism into her painted works, taking the form of standard stretched canvases, scenery backdrops, and theater flats. Encouraging the viewer to engage with works on planes beyond the wall, Xandersmith interrogates the authorities of concealment, revelation, and the “in-between.” “I call my paintings and my painted installations the in-between. They depict places that are not tangible, but psychological. In the in between, dualities can collide and interact: the past and the present, the human and the digital, the imagined and the real...My work is a way of combating the dread and endless questions I have about my relationship with time, technology, and the paradox of self awareness.” - Artist Statement "Til Death Turns Digital", Oil Paint on Canvas, Bright Colors, Surrealism

  • 48 x 60 in. "For Helen" oil on canvas - black and white oil painting
    By Alexis Portilla
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
This is a large monochromatic oil painting on canvas by Alexis Portilla. Oil on Canvas 48x60" Alexis Portilla obtained his Master's of Fine Arts at Columbia University in 1990 and has been working as an artist for more than 20 years. We showcase this talented artist's virtuosity ranging from the strong, bold and big to the fragile, vulnerable small exquisite pieces in beeswax and oil. Influenced by the emotion of artistic expression in music, poetry and literature, the artist finds bold expression in color, lines and shapes that resemble pictographs, and texture. Often, his pictographs depict vessels because of its significance to many aspects of the human condition. His bold linear lines, use of symbols, pictographs and strong colors create atmospheric abstracts. “Using simple forms and creating swathes of rich texture, Alexis Portilla builds atmospheric abstract paintings that convey a sense of time having passed. Brushy areas of color suggest the indeterminacy of memory, while bold linear forms speak for the present.” Meredith Mendelsohn, Art News magazine review. He has shown in group and solo exhibitions both nationally and internationally. His works have been commissioned by major corporations, universities and for private collections.
