"Macbeth Stagecraft II" Pastel on Paper 10" x 12" in by Salah Abdel Kerim Born in Fayoum to a big family of 5 brothers and sisters. In 1938 he meets the famous painter Hussein Bikar and he becomes his student in the Faculty of Arts in Qena. He remained much attached to his professor all through his life. In 1940 he meets Hussein Youssef Amin and the Group of Contemporary Art at the secondary school of Farouk First in Abasya district in Cairo when he was introduced to surrealism for the first time. In 1943 he becomes a student at the Faculty of Fine Arts and graduates with excellence and honors in 1947. In 1948 he becomes an assistant to the interior decoration section at the FFA. He is then sent to a mission in Paris in 1952 and he becomes a student to Paul Colin and A.Marie Cassandre for publicity and theatre design. He then moves to Rome in 1956 to study cinema design. In 1957 he received the international prize in painting from San Vito Romano, Italy, and obtains his Ph.D. from Centro Sperimental di Cinemato Grafia. Blessed with natural artistic ability and finding encouragement from her family at an early age, Sally Swatland has traveled the proper paths to find herself in a unique place: the foremost American woman painting children at the seashore. With a romanticized nod to yesteryear, Swatland's characters are innocent and fair, in an array of matching springtime and summery apparel. Adept with brush and palette knife, she blends many artistic influences and styles into her own unique presentations. This painting features a fair-haired young girl dipping her feet in the shallow waters along a rocky shoreline. The sea behind is a brilliant blue with small white-capped waves rolling into shore. Sally K was born in Ohio following her family’s emigration from Lebanon. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Saudi Arabia, where she stayed until she was 14. Sally attended high school and college in Beirut, where she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts with distinction from the Lebanese American University of Beirut. In 2013, Sally and her family moved back to the United States and she now paints out of her studio in California. The focus of Sally’s portraits is contemporary women. Her style merges characteristics of abstract expressionism with realism and portrait painting to convey not just the beauty of women, but their confidence and strength as well.
