About the Item
In this oil painting on canvas, three generations of Latina women stand in front of a maroon tree-trunk with a pre-adolescent girl between the mother and grandmother. The grandmother's indigo colored dress features almost white polka dots , while the mother is in turquoise with grape-colored embroidery. The girl's top is white, as befits her youth, and her skirt shows a joyful sequence of squares in harmony with her expression, open and eager for her future life.

Roxanna Melendez
Roxanna Melendez is a visual artist, who often uses Caribbean themes in her paintings. Born in Puerto Rico, she graduated with a master of social work degree from Columbia University and studied art at Hunter College and the Art Students League of New York.
