2016

About the Item

Pastel pink tonal painting of a humanoid figure against a blue and purple background. Painting is done in a acrylic paint that is layered for affect on a wooden panel. Painting is not framed but the panel is painted black around the edges. Painting is signed by the artist in the bottom right corner as well as signed, titled, and dated on the back of the piece. Artist Biography: Born in Montreal in 1971, Sylvain Coulombe enrolled at UQAM to study environmental design with a passion to create at the age of twenty two. His field of study influenced his unique visual language which is fulled with textures, geometric, and color compositions. He felt that canvas did not work for his subjects so he started painting on wood. This allowed him to have a wider variety of technique that brought out the depth of his characters. To Sylvain Coulumbe painting is a playful way to experiment with feelings and he explores this by using colors and textures until they began to speak to him. He is quoted saying, "The feeling inside me is my main inspiration; all my environment and all that I lived is unconsciously digested so that later I can transpose it into my work.” He represents the human form in a fashion that is curious and strikingly vivid, delivering a surrealist approach to his portraiture. Whether his figures are looking towards the viewer or off into a distant world, a relationship is developed between the spectator and the artwork.

    By Eddy Lee

Eddy Lee’s figurative surrealist portrait paintings on exposed wood depict emotive sirens who evoke a sense of mystery and seductiveness. His original artworks combine geometric elements with innocent women portraits seeking to trigger emotions, rather than communicating specific explanations. He reconciles the unconscious with rational life, exploring the power of dreams, embracing automatism, and freeing his subjects from the constraints of conscious thought. This colorful, intriguing woman portrait is painted with acrylic and gouache on a hand-built cradled wood panel. This one-of-a-kind original artwork measures 24 inches high by 24 inches wide. It is signed by the artist on the front and back. It is wired and ready to hang. It does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with this unique work. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Eddy Lee relocated to Los Angeles in late 2012 to pursue a full-time career as a fine artist. He started his career on the Venice Beach Boardwalk and quickly gained a large following across the United States with exhibitions in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. The artist’s work is inspired by the works of Audrey Kawasaki...
