A charming genre scene after Flemish 17th century painter Thomas van Apshoven. The scene shows men in a tavern playing dice as they drink ale. The darkened interior and colourful characters are typical of Van Apshoven's, giving an insight into the life of Dutch peasants. Inscribed with initials to the lower centre of the piece. Acquired with a similar oil by the same hand as a pair. Presented in a gilt frame with floral ornamentation to the corners. On board.
